Eco-friendly paving at Pandino Castle (CR)

A new sustainable pavement to enhance Pandino Castle

The restoration of the external areas of Pandino Castle required a natural, durable paving solution that would blend seamlessly with the historical context. Terra Solida provided an environmentally friendly solution, ensuring aesthetics, functionality, and compatibility with the architectural constraints of the Visconti complex.

The client

The client is the Visconti Castle of Pandino, a prestigious historical complex in the province of Cremona and one of the best-preserved examples of Visconti architecture in Lombardy. Management of the castle requires interventions that respect the cultural value of the site, preserving the original character of the outdoor spaces and improving its usability for residents and visitors.

Description of the project

The project involved the redevelopment of the external surfaces of Pandino Castle, one of the best-preserved Visconti complexes in Lombardy.

The primary goal was to restore aesthetic and functional continuity to the outdoor spaces, favoring natural materials that were compatible with the architectural context. The choice of stabilized earth flooring allowed for a resistant, draining base and visually harmonious, minimizing the impact on the historic landscape.

The project also improved the usability of the outdoor areas, enhancing the paths and access points intended for visitors.

The work required particular attention to the colors and textures to ensure integration between flooring and historic walls.

The use of the products of the line Nature Stabil Road It ensured mechanical stability and durability over time, maintaining a natural and non-invasive aesthetic.

The installation process was carried out with non-impact techniques, respecting landscape and architectural constraints. The end result offers a balance between modern functionality and respect for historical heritage, enhancing the visitor experience and ensuring minimal long-term maintenance.

DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

The project responded to clear and well-defined requirements:

  • High permeability so as to ensure that the surfaces are not waterproofed, guaranteeing full usability with the absence of stagnant water and puddles.
  • Excellent mechanical resistance so as to guarantee a long durability of the routes.
  • Colors and textures consistent with the historical context.
  • Respect for constraints architectural and landscape.
  • Durability over time, with stable and constant technical performance even after years of use.

Products used

Three key products from the Terra Solida range were used to create the stabilized flooring:

  • Stabilsolid 20.15
(used for the foundation of paths) eco-friendly binding-consolidating mixture based on hydraulic lime and inorganic oxides for stabilized earth pavements,
  • Stabilcure
Curing agent, in aqueous dispersion, specific for surface treatment seasoning and anti-evaporation of bound and stabilized natural aggregate flooring
  • Nature Premix
Premixed eco-friendly binder-consolidant based on hydraulic limes and natural oxides, specific for the stabilization of natural granular aggregates,
