Eco-friendly stabilized earth flooring for the moats of the Aragonese Castle of Otranto
At the request of EDILCOSTRUZIONI srl, entrusted with the works “Recovery of the Moats of the Aragonese Castle of Otranto (LE), it was built using earth stabilized with an eco-friendly system Nature Stabil Road of Terra Solida Italia, the paving of the driveways to make the large spaces in front of the bastions and walls of the castle usable, without obstacles and architectural barriers, allowing shows of national and international importance, such as the concerts of Maestro Nicola Piovani, of artists of the caliber of Gianna Nannini, of events such as Battiti Live and the Otranto Summer Festival and allowing relevant events such as the "Luminarie Otranto Festival".
Description of the project
The project saw the creation of a wide path close to the castle walls made with the same materials used for their construction, for a very successful chromatic and textural combination.
The design requirements for the creation of the routes were mainly:
- eco-friendliness of all the materials used;
- colors completely similar to the stones of the castle facades;
- mechanical characteristics such as to guarantee a long durability of the intervention;
- permeability of the wear layers such as to guarantee the absence of water stagnation and, consequently, to have a high degree of safety in the use of the routes even in the presence of severe weather conditions.
Products used
To create the routes the following were used:
- eco-friendly natural stabilizer Nature Premix, used to stabilize a mixture of aggregates adopted after adequate testing carried out by the specialized technicians of Terra Solida Italia;
- maturing aid Stabilcure in order to guarantee the correct maturation of the surfaces.

Eco-friendly binder-consolidator in powder form, to be used to create natural and permeable paving, in stabilized earth, through mixing with soil present on site or with stabilized quarry mixes or with recycled aggregates deriving from demolitions, even if in the presence of clay and silt .

Treatment for the correct maturation of stabilized surfaces. Stabilcure is a water-based product for the correct hydration of the hydraulic binder used for the stabilization of in situ soils or granular stabilized mixtures
